Electricity and Data over UTP/STP
For applications that require user to put a network device (such as AP) in a place where there is no electrical outlet available, the Power over Ethernet is the best solution. Power over Ethernet allows both data and electricity to be transmitted over a Cat.5 UTP/STP cable at up to 100 meter of distance. This allow electronic devices to be placed in the outdoor or difficult to reach places, while utilizing the power source and the Ethernet network indoor. Components The Power over Ethernet package composed of 4 components. Please click here to view the animation that explains how Power-Over-Ethernet works. The red color cables are the UTP/STP cables. 1. Power Adapter (POE-100PR) Power Adapter supplies power to the whole Power-Over-Ethernet package. It is plugged-in to the wall outlet on one end, and connects to the base unit on the other. 2. Base Unit (POE-100BU) The base Unit takes the electricity from the Power Adapter and the data from the Ethernet network, then combined them into a signal that can be transmitted through the UTP/STP cable. 3. Terminal Unit (POE-112TU, POE-109TU, POE-105TU or POE-103TU) The Terminal Unit takes the combined Signal from the Base Unit and separate them back to data and electrical signal. In the process, it converts the voltage into the voltage used by the electronic device. 4. DC Power Cord (POE-100DC) DC Power Cord takes the electricity from the terminal unit and supply it to the electronic device (such as AP) The Kits includes all the components in 12Vdc, 9Vdc, 5Vdc or 3.3Vdc output.
